The Enneagram: Mindfulness and Somatic Care – Sunday, June 9th

I’m excited to share with you that on Sunday, June 9th, I will be offering a new workshop, “The Enneagram: Mindfulness and Somatic Care,” exclusively for Integral Coaches.

In 2022, I mentored with Enneagram Teacher Sue Guttenstein in the somatic use of the Enneagram and have been sharing the techniques with interested clients since.

I thoroughly enjoy sharing information and insights about Enneagram types and subtypes with you every second Wednesday. And as Integral Coaches we know that information and insights are only part of the equation when it comes to making change.

Through the workshop, I’d like to introduce and take a small group of you through the experience of how our Types show up in our bodies through physical sensation.

The more skillful we become at non-judgmentally noticing our Type’s physical presence and allowing the sensations to play out with compassion for ourselves, the easier it becomes to step beyond our Type’s conditioned beliefs and behaviours.

Here are the logistics for the workshop:

Date & Time: Sunday, June 9th at 1 PM Eastern
Length: 3 to 3.5 hours
Platform: Zoom
Limited to: 4 participants
Cost: $150 CAD

Please email me at michael [at] mlcoaching.ca if you have any questions or would like to register.

What will we cover in the workshop?

We’ll begin with a mindfulness practice or two to ground before I share the philosophy behind the importance of somatic work when it comes to growing in and beyond our types.

I will then guide each participant one-by-one through a kind of journey into your somatic experience of the moment and how it may connect with your type while the other participants hold space for us. Everyone will get a turn to work with me one-on-one.

If there is time at the end of the workshop, you will all have an opportunity to practice being the guide of this process as well by asking me questions and guiding me to explore the sensations that come up for me as a Type 4.

In contrast to our Wednesday night sessions, the emphasis will be much more on presence and somatic experience than information.

What does “somatic” mean?

When we use the term in the context of coaching or the Enneagram it usually refers to an approach that centers and includes our bodies and physical sensations. These are sometimes left underemphasized in more relational and informational approaches.

What do I need to know to participate?

Knowing your Enneagram type and a few basic things about it is enough.

What do I need to prepare ahead of time?

Just a comfortable space and a few hours where you won’t be disturbed much. Since we’ll be doing some mindfulness, meditation, somatic work, and a lot of active listening, I encourage you to wear comfortable clothes and set yourself up in a supportive, private spot. We will be working with presence and sensation a lot more than information, so any kind of multi-tasking such as cooking or driving would be a significant barrier to getting the most of the workshop.

Is this only for Integral Coaches™?

Yes. An ACM grad or higher with some knowledge of the Enneagram. If you have done the PCM Group Session, that is more than enough Enneagram knowledge.

How might somatic work benefit and challenge each of the types?

Type 1: You may develop greater acceptance for the way things are, and it will require the loosening of a modicum of self-control.

Type 2: You may discover more to love about yourself, and it will require taking time to do something for yourself.

Type 3: You may discover ways to be more authentic and effective, and it will require stopping and being still with yourself.

Type 4: You may discover a greater depth of authenticity, and it will require venturing beyond your self-image.

Type 5: You may learn more about your considerable inner resources, and it will require a degree of transparency and openness.

Type 6: You may connect with a source of inner guidance, and it will require venturing into the unknown and uncertain.

Type 7: You may connect with an inner source of joy and satisfaction, and it will require your rich presence and attention.

Type 8: You may discover a source of great inner strength, and it will require a degree of vulnerability.

Type 9: You will have an opportunity to mediate and bring harmony to different parts of yourself, and it will require sitting with some discomfort and turbulence.
